Abiding in Prayer
(1 John 5:14-15)

1. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14)

A. Confidence in prayer results from our position as children of God. (Luke 11:2; Ephesians 3:14; Matthew 7:11)

B. Confidence in prayer results from communion with the Father. (1 John 5:14; 1 Corinthians 1:9)

C. Confidence in prayer results from the priesthood of Christ. (Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:26; 8:34)

2. “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14; Matthew 6:10)

A. Pursue the will of God. (Ephesians 3:20)

B. Perceive the will of God through external witness of Scripture and internal witness of the Holy Spirit. (Colossians 1:9; Romans 8:27)

C. Walk in the will of God. (John 7:17)

3. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 John 5:15)
