A. Are you seeking to do the Father’s will and to please Him?
B. Do you rejoice in sacrificial service to the Lord?

II. Timothy was an example of a single minded son. (Philippians 2:19-24; 2 Timothy 2:2)

A. What is it that you’re seeking in life?
B. Are you seeking after your own interests or Christ’s?

III. Epaphroditus was an example of a loving gambler. (Philippians 2:25-20; Matthew 16:24-22)

A. Are you willing to lay down your life for the needs of others?

IV. Jesus is our ultimate example of sacrifice and love. (Philippians 2:8; 1 John 3:16-18)

A. “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:16-18)

Five important commitments we can make that will ensure that we shine the light of Jesus in this dark world.

I. I will mine out what is already mine. (Philippians 2:12; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Peter 1:3-7)
II. I will depend entirely on God. (Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 3:20)
III. I will not complain or murmur. (Philippians 2:14; Exodus 16:8)
IV. I will be different to make a difference. (Philippians 2:15-16a; Matthew 10:16; Ephesians 5:8)
V. I will esteem others better than myself. (Philippians 2:3-4; 16b-18; Mark 12:31)
Application Questions:
1. Which of these five commitments is God speaking to your heart about?
2. How are you shining as stars in the world?
3. Ask God for His grace to help you live a life different than the world.

Take some time this week and think about all that you are thankful for. Make a list and then thank God for all your many blessings!
