The Supremacy of Christ

The Supremacy of Christ over All Creation (Colossians 1:15-20)

I. We exalt Christ because He is the image or revelation of God. (Colossians 1:15; John 1:1, 18; John 14:9)

II. We exalt Christ because He is firstborn or supreme over all of creation. (Colossians 1:15; John 1:1)

1. Christ is supreme over creation because He is the Creator. (Colossians 1:16)
2. Christ is supreme over creation because He is the goal of creation. (Colossians 1:16; Psalm 19:1-2; Romans 11:36; Philippians 2:9-11)
3. Christ is supreme over all of creation because He is the sustainer of creation. (Colossians 1:17; Hebrews 1:3; James 1:17)

III. We exalt Christ because He is the firstborn from the dead. (Colossians 1:18; 1 Corinthians 15:20-23)

IV. We exalt Christ because He is sufficient. (Colossians 1:19; 2:9)

Why is Christ supreme?
Why should Jesus be exalted in our lives and in the entire earth?
In what ways is God calling you to apply Christ’s preeminence?
What is supreme in your life?
What must you do to make Jesus first in your life and keep him first?
