The Lord’s Prayer: “Lead Us Not into Temptation, But Deliver Us from Evil”
(Matthew 6:13)
1. There are tests/trials meant to strengthen our faith and turn our hearts to God and trust Him. (James 1:2-4; 1 Peter 1:6-8; Romans 5:3-5)
2. There are temptations from within and without that purpose to destroy us and weaken our faith. (James 1:13-17; Jeremiah 17:9)
Lead us not into temptation:
1. Be aware that there is an enemy. (Ephesians 6:12; John 8:44)
2. Recognize our own potential for sin. (1 Corinthians 10:12; Jeremiah 17:9)
3. Know that we are powerless to resist in our own strength. (Matthew 26:41; Philippians 4:13)
4. Acknowledge our certain victory if we fight in the power of God’s strength. (1 Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 6:10-11)
Deliver us from evil:
1. Flee Evil! (2 Timothy 2:22)
2. Allow God to transform your mind. (Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 10:5)
3. Abide in the Word and rely on the Word of God. (Psalm 119:9-11)
4. Submit to God so we can resist evil. (James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:6-9)
5. Recognize His presence as our greatest blessing. (Psalm 84:10)
